  • The congressman said that the refusal of the former VP to leave the Capitol building was chilling.

  • During the Capitol riot, security agents tried to convince him to get into a car.

  • He told his security agent that he was not going to get in the car.

The congressman from Maryland said it was chilling to learn that former Vice President Mike Pence refused to leave the Capitol.

During the January 6 insurrection last year, rioters, inspired by former President Donald Trump, clashed with police and broke into the Capitol building as lawmakers met to certify the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Lawmakers and law-enforcement officers have come forward to say they experienced trauma after the Capitol riot. Alexandria said she thought she was going to be raped and killed. She said she hid in the bathroom with her staffer as a group of angry Trump supporters chanted her name.

In the middle of the chaos, it was previously reported that the leader of the certification refused to leave the Capitol. The Secret Service agents escorted the vice president into his office because they were afraid the rioters would break the glass windows. According to an account of the events as reported by Washington Post reporters Philip Rucker and Carol D. Leonnig, they asked him to evacuate the building twice.

"I'm not leaving the Capitol," he said. He wouldn't get into the limo.

If I get in that vehicle, you guys are going to take off. I am not getting in the car.

The House panel tasked with investigating the Capitol riot was chaired by Raskin.

"I'm not getting in that car" is the most chilling words that Pence has said so far, according to NBC News.

More than 800 people have been charged in connection with the insurrection. The FBI used social media posts to identify people.

According to testimony from an aide to a former White House Chief of Staff, Republican lawmakers plotted with Trump and his aides to stop Biden from taking the presidency.

The testimony brought forth before the panel will blow the roof off the house.
