Falafel is a snack that is a staple in the Middle East. I was served a meal on a flight. Is United good enough to measure up?
First class passengers on select domestic flights will be able to pre-order their meal between 1 and 5 days in advance.
I had five choices for my trip from Chicago to Los Angeles.
It's not often you get to try something new on United, so the choice was easy, I tried every dish except the falafel bowl.
I ordered the Mediterranean Falafel bowl, which was described as a "hearty grain bowl with Mediterranean vegetables and falafel."
The flight attendant confirmed my meal order had been loaded when I disembarked. For whatever reason, I expected the meal to be cold.
It was served hot. I could not tell what the other grains were beyond the yellow bell peppers and green parsley. It was delicious. The Falafel was crisp and delicious, almost like I had just been removed from the deep fryer.
A bowl of fruit, a bread roll, and chocolate-filled cookie were part of the meal.
If you see it on your pre-order choices, give it a try. I diverted from my usual chicken to try something new and found it to be one of the better United Airlines meals I have had this year.
If it is served in a casserole dish, don't call it a falafel.
