We know that human bodies can be gross at times, but we don't want to be reminded of it. When you change your sheets and see that your pillows are covered in yellow and brown stains, it can be frightening.

These pillows look worse than they are. There is a reasonable explanation as to how the stains got there. Here is what to know.

Why do pillows turn yellow?

The most common cause of pillows turning yellow is sweat. Some people sweat more than others. The more people sweats, the more water gets into the pillowcase and onto the pillow, causing stains. It all adds up when you consider how many hours our heads and faces are planted on that pillow.

If your hair is particularly oily or wet, it may be the culprit. Makeup and skincare products can be behind the yellow stains. It could be very good. It is possible to prevent a lot of the discoloration by putting a waterproof pillow protector on.

How to remove yellow stains from pillows

The longer the stains are there, the harder it will be to get rid of them. You have to get in there and clean them the first time you notice a color change.
