The New York Yankees won a walk-off game on Saturday, overshadowed by an altercation between the Cleveland Guardians and fans in the stands.

The fans who were throwing items at the players need to be held accountable, according to Oscar Mercado.

The situation began when Cleveland's Steven Kwan crashed into the left-field wall trying to make a catch on Isiah Kiner-Falefa's double that tied the game.

The Yankees fans appeared to be making fun of him while he was being examined. Mercado and Straw stood up for him.

Fans began throwing items onto the field after Gleyber Torres hit a walk-off single. Straw scaled the wall in right field to get in one fan.

Mercado said he was almost hit in the face by a semi-full beer can, and Straw said that Stephan got hit with an ice cream cone.

Straw called Yankees fans "classless" and "the worst fanbase on the planet".

The stadium security and other players were able to intervene before things got out of hand.

Mercado said "Say whatever you want to say". Do what you want to do. There have to be consequences for behavior like that.

An umpire was hit by a thrown item as he tried to settle things down.

Kiner-Falefa told reporters that they win with class.

The Yankees players made their way to the outfield in order to calm the fans down.

Even though the situation did escalate, security was able to get things under control quickly.

The Yankees scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to beat the Indians.
