The 15-point gap between Barnes and Mobley was the smallest in the 20 seasons the NBA has done the voting.

Barnes had 48 first place votes and finished with 358 points, while being listed on every ballot, despite missing Games 2 and 3 with a left ankle injury.

Mobley had 43 first place votes and was named to 99 of the 100 ballots.

Barnes, the fifth overall pick out of Florida State, averaged 15.3 points, 7.5 rebound, 3.5 assists, 1.08 steals and 0.74 blocks in 74 games this season for Toronto, leading all rookies in minutes.

He won the Eastern Conference's rookies of the month award in the last two months of the season, making him the third Raptors player to win the honor.

In 69 games for Cleveland, which was picked third by Cleveland out of USC, Mobley averaged 15 points and 8.3 boards, helping turn them back into a playoff contender for the first time since James left the franchise for a second time four years ago.

After Barnes and Mobley were honored with the award, the Detroit Pistons guard who received the other nine first place votes had the top overall pick, and the second overall pick had one second.
