The Republican candidate for governor, Charles Herbster, is being sued by one of his accusers.

According to a defamation lawsuit filed Friday in Johnson County, Nebraska,Herbster, who is CEO and President of Carico farms andHerbster Angus farms, denied sexually assault Slama and said the accusations are politically motivated.

The false accusations and attacks on my character are part of a larger scheme to try and defeat my candidacy. I will not stop fighting until the truth is told and my name is cleared.

Slama has endorsed Jim Pillen, the Republican who sits on the Nebraska Board of regents. Donald Trump endorsedHerbster.

The Nebraska Examiner reported on April 14 that eight women accused Herbster of sexual harassment. Six of the women said he groped them. One woman accusedHerbster of forcibly kissing her.

Slama, the only woman who wasn't quoted in the story, said thatHerbster reached up her skirt in 2019. She repeated the claim in a public statement.

The allegations were denied byHerbster, who is set to campaign with Trump in Omaha on April 29

A lawyer for Slama said in a statement to the Examiner that the claims against her were without merit.

Lopez told the Examiner that Senator Slama would stand strong against any attempt to scare victims into not coming forward.

Some Nebraska state officials have supported Slama.

This is not a question of politics, but an issue of character and basic human decency. The female senators said in a signed letter that Charles Herbster's behavior is completely unacceptable for anyone, especially someone seeking a public office of authority and trust.
