Football fans will get a day full of games on Christmas for the first time.
According to the Associated Press, there will be three games on December 25. Two afternoon games will be broadcast on CBS and Fox, and a prime-time game on NBC.
When it falls on an NBA game day, we have had a lot of success, all thanks to our friends at the NBA. It is something that our friends are interested in and it makes perfect sense if Christmas falls on a Sunday.
The NFL will play at least two or three games on Christmas in 2023 because it falls on a Monday, according to North. Christmas will be on a Wednesday in 2024, and it is unlikely the NFL will schedule a midweek game.
North is not sure when they will play on Wednesday.
For the past three years, the NFL has played on Christmas. The Green Bay Packers defeated the Cleveland Browns last year. The game averaged 28.6 million viewers on Fox.
Indianapolis defeated Arizona 22-16 on Christmas in the 2021 season. It averaged over 12 million on the network.
The NBA has played on Dec. 25 since 1947, but the NFL decided to play games on Christmas. The Christmas season featured five NBA games. According to Austin Kapp of Sports Business Journal, those five games averaged 4.1 million viewers, the lowest since the NBA's broadcasting rights were acquired by Disney.
The full season schedule will be released on May 12. The first Thursday Night Football game on Amazon Prime, international games and other select games will be revealed before that.
