At least in life, that bright light has been extinguished. Shulze died on April 13 in Wisconsin according to her family. Their daughter took her own life, they revealed in a website posting.

Balancing athletics, academics and the demands of every day life overwhelmed her in a single, desperate moment.

She is survived by her family.

The tribute website said that she was surrounded by her family.

The family hopes that the suicide of their daughter will awaken others to mental health issues.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held in Ventura County on May 2 at 3 p.m. The street is Via Rocas. The family said everyone is welcome.

The University of Wisconsin in Madison will host a similar ceremony on Sunday.
