According to sources, the Charlotte Hornets have fired coach James Borrego.
The last three of which came as the Hornets were rebuilding in the wake of franchise icon Kemba Walker's departure for Boston in free agency, Borrego's last season with Charlotte.
Over the past three seasons, Borrego oversaw 10-game improvements for the Hornets. In the next two seasons, Charlotte went from 23-42 to 33-39 and 43-39.
Borrego oversaw player development successes in LaMelo Ball, last season's NBA rookies of the year and an All-Star this season, as well as Miles Bridges, who is in line for a big contract this summer as a restricted free agent.
The Charlotte Hornets lost in the play-in tournament to the Atlanta Hawks last week. The Hornets lost their first play-in game as the 10-seed for the second year in a row. Gordon Hayward was out of the play-in games because of injuries.
The final 30 games of the Magic's 2014-15 season were taken over by Borrego after he was fired. He was an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs, New Orleans Pelicans, and the Magic.
Since returning to the NBA in 2004, the Hornets have missed the playoffs for six straight seasons and have only made it out of the first round three times.
