The NCAA playing rules oversight panel approved three measures that will take effect in 2022.

The rule changes centered on targeting, faking injuries and blocking below the waist.

Previously, anyone ejected for targeting during the second half of a game had to sit out the first half of their next game.

Conferences have the right to appeal the decision to the NCAA national coordinators of officials for any game that has instant replay.

If video shows the player shouldn't have been removed because of targeting, he will be eligible for the next game.

Schools and conferences will be able to report scenarios where an opposing team may have been awarded an injury timeout suspiciously.

Discipline can be issued by the conference or school if the national coordinator of officiating deems it necessary.

At least one play is required for injured players.

The committee decided to simplify the rule surrounding blocking below the waist.

Lineman and stationary backs will be allowed to block below the waist on scrimmage plays. Any action outside the tackle box will be punished.
