The news can be pretty bad. Dana Ellis Hunnes says in her new book that we can help the health of the planet and ourselves at the same time.

In his book, Hunnes writes about the destruction of 20 million acres of rainforest each year, which releases millions of tons of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrogen into the atmosphere.

It would have a huge impact if people were willing to reduce their meat and dairy intake by half. She says we could feed more people if we saved a third of the water and land we use. Half of the food we grow is used to feed animals. Eating a plant-based diet requires less land, water, and energy according to a 2003 study.
