Over the past four years, the global smartphone market has shrunk slightly, while Apple has increased its share.

The most widely used operating system in the world is the one from Google, called the Android OS. According to new data from StockApps, it is no surprise that the majority of the mobile market is dominated by theANDROID platform.

The global OS market was dominated by the operating system in July. Four years later, the percentage had dropped to 69.74%. Over the four-year period, global adoption of iOS grew from 19.4% to 25.49%. Other smaller scale OS developers got the remaining 1.58% of the loss.

Despite reports of disappointing iPhone SE sales, it is a positive sign for Apple that it is paying dividends in a highly competitive space, despite the marginal shift in share.

The geographical breakdown of OS dominance is included in the analysis. In Africa, where Apple devices are more expensive than in other parts of the world, almost all of the devices are powered by the operating system. In Asia and South America, the share of the operating system is similar. In Asia and South America, the share of the iPad is 18% and 10%, respectively.

In North America and Oceania, Apple has more of a piece of the OS pie than it has in other parts of the world.
