In June 2021, we learned that Chase will be entering the airport lounge game, which was previously dominated by American Express, and that Capital One is also getting into the airport lounge business. I wanted to cover everything we know so far in this post, because we have seen more locations revealed for future Chase lounges.

Basics of Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club

The Chase Sapphire Lounge will be known as The Club at the airport. Chase is entering the lounge space with Airport Dimensions, which operates the existing airport lounge group.

We now know where the first lounges will be, when they will open, and who will get access.

Chase Sapphire Lounge locations & sizes

Five of the first six Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club locations are in the United States, and one is outside the United States. There will be lounges.

  • Boston (BOS), in the connector between Terminal B & Terminal C
  • Hong Kong (HKG), in Terminal 1
  • Las Vegas (LAS), in Terminal C
  • New York (LGA), in Terminal B
  • Phoenix (PHX), in Terminal 4 South 1
  • San Diego (SAN), in Terminal 2 West

It is expected that at least a few of these lounges will open in the coming months. Boston, Phoenix, and San Diego are expected to open in the next few years. I can't help but wonder if the Hong Kong lounge will open at all in the future.

We have a sense of the size of four of these lounges.

  • The BOS Chase Sapphire Lounge is expected to be 12,000 square feet
  • The LAS Chase Sapphire Lounge is expected to be 4,500 square feet
  • The PHX Chase Sapphire Lounge is expected to be 3,500 square feet
  • The SAN Chase Sapphire Lounge is expected to be 11,000 square feet

Hong Kong, Las Vegas, New York, and Phoenix already have Centurion Lounges.

Chase Sapphire Lounge entry requirements

Priority Pass members will be able to access the lounge. It's possible you won't need to access the Priority Pass membership to use the lounges, since the card also comes with a Priority Pass membership.

Further access requirements have not been revealed. Will day passes be sold? Will Chase Sapphire Preferred card members be able to get discounted access?

The Amex Platinum and Capital One Venture X should get access since they also offer a Priority Pass membership.

What should we really expect from Chase Sapphire Lounges?

As we learn more about the lounge concept, it's still confusing to me.

  • It doesn’t sound like Chase is going as premium as Amex or Capital One with airport lounges
  • Since these lounges will have “The Club” in the branding, it’s not entirely clear how different they’ll be than typical “The Club” lounges
  • Is this just a mutual marketing opportunity of sorts between “The Club” and Chase, or is there more to this?
  • Since these lounges will be open to everyone with a Priority Pass membership, that more or less opens the floodgates, and I imagine these lounges will get busy; I wonder if any capacity controls will be put in place, especially for the 3,500-4,500 square foot lounges
The Club at Boston (BOS)

I think you can only get excited about credit card lounges in the United States, given how many people have access, even though it is awesome to see Chase get into the airport lounge game. The broad access requirements and opening them up to all Priority Pass members limits how nice these will be.

The Capital One Lounge DFW is the only credit card lounge in the US that is truly exceptional.

Capital One Lounge Dallas (DFW)

The Club will be introducing a new lounge concept called Chase Sapphire Lounge. Priority Pass members should be able to access the lounges at BOS, HKG, LAS, LGA, PHX, and SAN if they have a Chase Reserve card.

I wouldn't get excited here. I wouldn't expect these to be competitive with Capital One Lounges in terms of experience, as they seem like a branding opportunity.

What do you think about Chase's new airport lounge concept?

The tip of the hat was given to the Thrifty Traveler.
