The Florida panthers won the NHL's Atlantic Division. They look like a team that is ready to win more.

The Florida panthers tied a franchise record with their 12th straight win, beating the Detroit Red Wings 5-2 on Thursday night.

The Atlantic title and home-ice advantage throughout the Eastern Conference playoffs were locked up by that. It is the third time that Florida has won a division title.

It means a lot. We put a lot of hard work into the season, and locking up the division is a big accomplishment for us. We are trying to build our game and have fun while we are doing it.

Marchment had a goal and an assist, and Sam Reinhart, Noel Acciari, and Weegar also scored for the Eastern Conference-leading Panthers, who moved two points ahead of the West-leading Colorado in the race for the best record in the NHL. There are five games left for the Florida and Colorado.

Acciari said that they were taking care of business.

The 12-game winning streak was posted in December of 2015. In the past six games, Florida has defeated opponents 61-31.

Weegar said that he was happy that the team was getting the wins.

Jonathan Huberdeau had two assists and moved into a tie for the league lead in points.

Bobrovsky made 28 saves.

Alex Nedeljkovic made 22 saves for Detroit.

They have a lot of points for a reason, according to Detroit coach Jeff Blashill. We have to find a way. Make sure to take advantage of our chances.

The Red Wings closed to within a goal on a shot from the right circle by Bertuzzi at 13:45 in the second, but the Panthers went ahead 4-2 after Weegar poked the puck in from the slot about 10 minutes later.

The power-play goal by Reinhart early in the third made it a five-point game.

Florida interim coach Andrew Brunette said they got a little physical in the second and took over the game. I think we have been able to do that all season long.

Three goals were scored on seven shots in the first period.

Acciari tied the score 1-all on a shot from the low slot at 9:19.

The power-play goal came from the high slot with 1:07 left in the game, and gave the panthers a 2-1 lead. Marchment's shot went off a defender and into the net with 21 seconds left to make it 3-1.

They seem to create offense out of nothing, and you feel like you are playing well against them. They found a way to get through.
