  • Several top US business leaders, journalists, and officials were banned from travelling by Russia.

Russia banned travel for Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and other prominent Americans on Thursday.

The sanctions were imposed in response to Russia's attack on Ukraine. Top Pentagon officials, US business leaders, and journalists are included in the travel ban.

According to an Insider translation of the ministry's press release, individuals will be denied entry into Russia on an "indefinite basis" According to a translation, the ministry said they had identified the people who were responsible for shaping the agenda in the US.

The sanction won't have much of an impact on Facebook or any of the other individuals who have stopped them from visiting Russia.

The list of sanctions did not include the names of other top US business leaders like Parag Agrawal, or Sundar Pichai, even though they have been proactive in handling Russian misinformation.

Several reporters on the list commented on the Russian travel ban on social media.

Mark MacKinnon, senior international correspondent for The Globe and Mail, is getting a lot of praise for his response to the sanction against him. I made a lot of friends in Russia, but many of them have left. I tried to report honestly. I guess that was the problem.

There were no responses to a request for comment in time for publication.

Russia imposed sanctions on US President Joe Biden last month, and then announced more sanctions against members of Congress.

Russia banned Facebook and other platforms because they were deemed to be Extremist organizations. Russian people have been blocked from using LinkedIn.
