New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas will be looking for ways to improve the roster this year, and that might include a trade for San Francisco 49ers star Deebo Samuel.

Joe Douglas told reporters that his job has been to get the team better. I will do that any way I can. We are going to be aggressive if the right opportunity presents itself.

Samuel requested a trade from the 49ers. Ian Rapoport reported the Jets were one of the teams that would consider moving the All-Pro.

New York makes sense.

There are three key elements in a Deebo Samuel trade (other than the 49ers' willingness): - Need - Draft capital to send back- Financial flexibility for an extension

Factoring in all of those, no team feels better equipped IMO to make a push for a trade than the Jets.

The franchise has lacked a true No. 1 wideout for years. The last one who qualifies might be Laveranues Coles. The front office has spent millions of dollars on draft picks that have not panned out.

Samuel would make a huge difference in the passing game. It was easy to overlook the fact that he had the highest average yards per reception in the league.

Samuel would remain an impact player if another team deployed him as a more traditional wideout.

There is a level of risk in giving up draft capital to land Samuel, and also giving him a massive extension.

If the Jets are on the board at No. 35 in the second round, they might be able to find good value.

Would you rather give up a first-round pick and pay Deebo Samuel $25 million a year or draft Garrett Wilson/Drake London/Chris Olave/Jameson Williams and have 5 years of cost certainty? Asking for everyone sitting 10-20.

Douglas may not want to make that bet when there is a chance of getting a ready-made Pro Bowler.
