Second alien world detected in the planetary system HD 83443

HD 83443 is a nearby star and another exoplanet has been found. The planet is a Jupiter-mass planet and is on a 22-year elliptical path. The paper was published on the arXiv pre-print server.

HD 83443 is a solar mass K0 star with more metallicity than the sun. The star is 2.64 billion years old and has an effective temperature of 5,429 K.

The detection of another giant planet, which was suggested by previous studies, has been reported by a team of astronomer. The University College London Echelle Spectrograph (UCLES) at the 3.9 m Anglo-Australian Telescope is one of the instruments that yielded the finding.

HD 83443 has been observed by four precise radial velocity instruments over the course of 22 years. The researchers wrote in the paper that they gave details about the observations from each instrument.

HD 83443 c is the designation for the newly found alien world. The results show that this planet has a mass of 1.5 Jupiter mass and is in a close proximity to its host.

HD 83443 c is on a star that is very eccentric, measured to be 0.76. The authors of the study believe that a scattering event may have sent HD 83443 b to its close orbit while leaving HD 83443 c on a wide and eccentric path. They think that a third, less massive planet may have participated in the scattering and was ejected.

HD 83443 is a rare example of a well-characterized system with a hot Jupiter and a giant planet. HD 83443 c is the most distant companion to a hot Jupiter.

The astronomer emphasize the need for further studies of the system in order to shed more light on the properties of the newfound planet. HD 83443 c may be a target in the future.

Although the host star is a bit far, the planet could potentially be imaged by future missions when it approaches periapsis.
