According to The New York Times, US intelligence assessments say that Russian President Vladimir Putin believes he is winning the war in Ukraine and that Western resolve to isolate him would crack over time.

According to The Times, a senior US official said that intelligence assessments delivered to the White House concluded that Putin was confident of the success of the military campaign despite multiple setbacks.

In a public statement on Monday, Putin claimed that punishing sanctions by the West had failed to have a significant impact on the Russian economy. The head of Russia's central bank said the full impact of the sanctions was yet to be felt.

According to the assessments, Putin believes that with the help of China, India, and other Asian economies, he can avoid full international isolation and the worst consequences of Western sanctions.

China and India have continued trading with Russia even though they did not support Russia in the war in Ukraine.

The potential use of force has been menaced by Putin. Putin said that the new intercontinental missile, dubbed "Satan 2," would give food for thought to those who try to threaten our country.

A senior US intelligence official told the Times that Putin may lash out at the West in unpredictable ways because of his isolation.

The official said that Putin has more incentive to disrupt the global system if he grows increasingly desperate.

In recent days, Russia has refocused its campaign in eastern Ukraine.

According to a Wednesday report, Putin was not listening to warnings about the political and economic cost of the conflict and was on an historic mission to wage war in Ukraine.
