The Chechen Republic leader Ramzan Kadyrov's troops killed three Russian soldiers who did not want to fight in the Ukraine war, according to a Ukrainian official.

A number of Russian soldiers rioted over a lack of promised pay in Polohy, a district in the southeastern Ukrainian region of Zaporizhzhia, according to an official statement attributed to regional military spokesman Col. Ivan Arefyev.

The statement said that the soldiers were ready to surrender their weapons and go home.

Three of the Russian soldiers werebrutally killed by fighters answering to Kadyrov.

Insider was unable to verify the incident and did not receive a response from the Russian embassy in London or Chechnya's parliament.

Kadyrov is a Putin loyalist who runs Chechnya with an iron fist. As per the statement, his private militia were fighting in support of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The relationship between Kadyrov's forces and the Russian rank and file would be revealed in Arefyev's report.

There have been reports that a number of Russian soldiers are reluctant to carry out their military objectives in Ukraine.

Some reports originate with Ukrainian officials and are amplified as part of the country's war effort.

The Security Service of Ukraine posted audio purporting to be intercepts of telephone conversations between Russian soldiers.

The voices suggest shooting a former colonel. They said they were ordered to fire on civilians because they had no weapons or supplies.

One voice says, "We were like what the fuck, you know?"

One of the people said, "Fuck bastards, shoot that wanker first, motherfucker." The other said he would write a huge report when he got home.

Insider was unable to verify the authenticity of the recording.

Others came from independent sources.

On March 23, the Ukrainian journalist Roman Tsymbaliuk reported that members of a Russian battalion ran over the legs of their colonel in a tank. A senior Western official told The Washington Post that they believed the colonel had been killed as a result of the scale of the losses taken by his own brigade.

Lawyer Mikhail Benyash told the Financial Times in April that more than 1,000 Russian service members had contacted him after he agreed to represent three Russian national guardsmen who refused to fight.

The Russian newspaper Pskovskaya Gubernia reported on April 7 that 60 Russian soldiers refused to join the invasion. The paper has a reputation for being independent in Russia.
