Adam Mosseri, the head of the company, said that the company is going to change its ranking system to highlight more original content. In the wake of the announcement, a representative for the social media giant told the website that they are making changes to their ranking system to prioritize the distribution of original content, rather than reposted content.

Mosseri said in a video on his social media channels that this is focused on the idea of originality. We are going to do more to try and value original content.

📣 New Features 📣

We’ve added new ways to tag and improved ranking:

– Product Tags– Enhanced Tags

– Ranking for originality

We want to make sure that creators are successful and get all the credit they deserve.

The platform will no longer recommend reposts of Reels that are already on the app. The company will be less likely to recommend accounts that aggregate and reshare content. It is important that the credit, distribution, growth and monetization go to the original creator according to the note.

Mosseri said that the photo-sharing website already works to highlight original content, but that it is leaning more towards this direction and will continue to do so.

As we lean more into recommendations, it's important that we don't overvalue the Aggregators, as that would be bad for creators and therefore bad for the service.

As we lean more into recommendations it’s becoming increasingly important that don’t overvalue aggregators, as that would be bad for creators, and therefor bad for Instagram long term.

Mosseri said that the app can't know for sure who the original creator of an image or video is. The company looks at things like who is in the video and if the app has seen the video before.

Many popular meme accounts on the social network receive tons of engagement and millions of views. The platform works to amplify the original creator instead of the current accounts, meaning that they may no longer get the same reach.

Mosseri also talked about the recent launches of enhanced and product tags. Product tagging, which was only available to creators and brands, is now available to all U.S. users with public accounts. All U.S. users will be able to tag products from businesses that are set up for shopping. The company says the expansion will make it easier for people to discover products from people they follow and for businesses to grow their audience on the platform.

The enhanced tags were launched earlier this month. They want to make it easier for creators to get credit for their work. The enhanced tags allow users to see a creator's contribution to a photo or video post. The creator's self-designated profile category will be displayed within the tag. With the new tags, creators will be able to tag other creatives within their posts as a way to give them more exposure for their work.
