The wife of the quarterback told a dispatch that he was walking to get gas on the morning he was killed.
According to Kalabrya, her husband called her early April 9 and told her he was getting out of his vehicle to get gas and that he would call her back when he returned to the car. She requested a dispatch check on him when she didn't hear back.
A dump truck hit and killed Haskins on the side of the road near the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International airport.
In the call, the wife said her husband got out of his car, but she couldn't say if he was involved in the accident. The audio released Wednesday included calls from people who said they saw a dump truck hit a man.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol's final crash report, the dump truck was traveling in the center lane when the man entered the travel lanes and hit it. The dump truck hit Haskins.
The report concluded that the driver of the dump truck wasn't to blame for the accident because he wasn't in the roadway. According to the report, a second car traveling beside the dump truck that took evasive maneuvers to avoid him hit him on the right side of the body.
The report said that a third vehicle may have been involved. Captain Rod Watkins of the Fort Lauderdale Fire Department pronounced him dead at 6:47 a.m.
The accident is under investigation.
There will be a memorial service in Pittsburgh on Friday at 11 a.m. at Allegheny Center Alliance Church. There will be a service at Christ Church in New Jersey on Saturday and at Bullis School in Maryland on Sunday.
Kalabrya Haskins said in a statement earlier this week that her husband was more than a great football player. He will remain in our hearts until the end of time.
