An investigation into the church, the pastor, and the couple filmed with him was published by the website in 2016 after he referred to the couple as his "good friends."

In a sermon following the legalization of same-sex marriage, Seibert spoke out against it.

This is a clear biblical admonition. If someone said that marriage is defined in a different way, I would say that they are wrong.

A same-sex couple has yet to be featured on Fixer Upper, though the show was re-booted in 2021 for Discovery+.

The statement that was shared by HGTV after the release of the article said: "We don't discriminate against members of the LGBT community in any of our shows." There is a consistent record of including people from all walks of life in the series.

The Magnolia website has been taken down, according to Good Housekeeping, because of a post that Chip responded to.

According to Good Housekeeping,Joanna and I have personal convictions, and one of them is that we care about you because you are a person. It's not about what color your skin is, how much money you have in the bank, your political affiliation, sexual orientation, gender, nationality or faith.

In an article published by The Hollywood Reporter,Joanna seemed to address the accusations.

The accusations that get thrown at you, like you're a racist or you don't like people in the LGBTQ community, that's the stuff that really eats my lunch.

Magnolia released a statement after Fixer Upper homeowners started turning their houses into rental properties.

Multiple former Fixer Upper homeowners were turning their houses into rental properties for sites likeAirbnb and VRBO, according to the Waco Tribune-Herald.

Magnolia representative Brock Murphy told the outlet that Fixer Upper was going to change its contract to discourage people who intended to turn their homes into rentals from applying to the show.

We have no issues with our clients using sites like VRBO and Airbnb to rent out their homes. We get it. We are going to be more strict with our contracts with Fixer Upper clients moving forward.

We want to honor our national viewing audience. We would like to do remodels for clients. Murphy said that they want to ensure that the true intent of the show is not lost in the new vacation rental trend.

Some of the homeowners who turned their houses into rentals told the Tribune-Herald that they started renting out their homes full-time because they were getting unwanted attention from being on Fixer Upper.

A $1 million lawsuit was filed against the couple by their neighbor.

Country Living reported that Chip andJoanna were sued for $1 million by their neighbor because of a fence.

The couple did not own an alleyway next to the Magnolia Market at the Silos. The couple had a lease agreement with the owners of the alleyway that allowed shoppers to park there, but Daron Farmer bought the property in July 2016 and wanted to charge people $10 to park their cars in the space.

According to the Tribune-Herald, the Gaineses were in talks with Farmer to buy the lot in 2016 but when negotiations failed, Chip put a gate across the entrance to the alley. According to the outlet, Farmer filed a lawsuit against the couple.

The lawsuit was dismissed after the Gaineses offered to buy the property. The outlet reported that the property was worth $777,000 when it was purchased by the Gaineses.

Farmer told KBTX that he was glad that the case was resolved peacefully and removed from the court system.

Two of his former business partners sued him for $1 million.

John L. Lewis and Richard L. Clark sued him for $1 million, accusing him of defrauding them.

The publication reported that Lewis, Clark, and Chip founded Magnolia.

Lewis and Clark said that Chip pressured them into selling their shares of the company for $2,500 each, without telling them that he and his wife were filming Fixer Upper for the cable network.

At a time when only the defendants knew that Fixer Upper had been fast-tracked for a one-hour premiere on HGTV and was on the verge of changing their lives and business enterprises, Chip Gaines plotted to eliminate his business partners.

USA Today reported that the complaint said that Chip called the business "less than worthless" when asking them to sell their shares and that he threatened Clark via a text message when he expressed hesitation to let his shares go.

In response to the lawsuit, Chip wrote: "I have had the same cell # 15 years and the same email for 20 years." No one called or sent an email.

The records of the case were sealed after the judge dismissed the lawsuit.

John Marsicano, a spokesman for the Gaineses, told the Tribune-Herald at the time that they had been proactive from the beginning.

Homeowners said they felt deceived by Magnolia after a car crashed into their home.

Homeowners Ken and Kelly Downs, who were featured on season three of Fixer Upper, said they felt deceived by the city of Waco and Magnolia Realty after a suspected drunk driver crashed into their home.

Ken and Kelly were not hurt by the vehicle, but the house was damaged.

The house was built up off the ground, so he cleared the rest of the yard after he hit the embankment.

Kelly told the Herald-Tribune that the experience made them more frustrated with their home.

She said that they have been harassed and intimidated. Store owners complain about taxes.

Insider previously reported that the attention increased taxes and home prices in the area, despite the fact that many residents credit the Gaineses and Magnolia with revitalizing Waco.

Kelly told the Herald-Tribune that it was not safe. This is a bad Fixer Upper.

The couple told the outlet that they had reported suspicious activity and made complaints to the city, but they did not get much response.

It is like the Wild West here. She said that there has been a lot of commotion coming from the bars and the store across the street. We have lived here a year and a half and we feel deceived by the city and Magnolia.

The EPA fined the Gaineses $40,000 for violating lead-paint policies.

According to an EPA settlement information sheet, the EPA fined the couple because the renovations of older homes did not depict the lead-safe work practices typically required for renovations.

The Magnolia team worked on 33 properties that were found to be in violation of the lead-paint rules by the EPA.

Magnolia was fined a civil penalty of $40,000 and was required to have lead-safe practices and educate the public on lead safety using their platform as part of the settlement.

Magnolia took immediate steps to ensure the compliance of its own operations, according to the information sheet from the EPA.

Shannon Braun ran for the school board in Colleyville, Texas, in May of 2021.

The Dallas Observer reported that Braun ran on an anti-critical race theory platform and said it was the most divisive threat to education. Critical race theory looks at how generations of racism impact society today.

Insider previously reported that Chip andJoanna donated $1,000 to Braun's campaign. The endorsement was listed on Braun's campaign website at one point, but that section was taken down at the time of Insider's reporting.

Braun was elected to the school board in June 2021, according to The Dallas Morning News.

The Dallas Morning News reported that critical race theory was not part of the curriculum at the time of Braun's campaign.

The Texas Tribune reported that Texas Governor Greg Abbot signed a bill into law in June that limits how educators can discuss current events and teach about the history of racism in America.

Braun and the Gaineses didn't respond to Insider's request for comment in 2021.

The Magnolia Network was launched on January 5.

On the day of the launch, homeowners from Andy and Candis Meredith's Magnolia show alleged that they ruined their houses.

Insider previously reported that Vienna and Rob Goates spoke out about their experience working at home on social media.

The Utah homeowners said that the Merediths spent tens of thousands of dollars over budget on renovations that were supposed to take weeks. Bennion said she had to pay tens of thousands of dollars to fix issues created in her home.

The homeowners told Insider that they tried to reach out to Magnolia Network for help, but were brushed off.

Magnolia Network confirmed it would be pulling the show from its lineup while it reviewed the claims.

In a statement to Insider on January 12 the Merediths denied the allegations the homeowners made against them, and later shared eight posts to their social media accounts.

Andy and Candis acknowledged that some of the show's renovations took longer than they expected, but they viewed the delays as standard issues in the construction industry. The public statements of their clients were shocking because they thought any issues that had come up during the renovations had been resolved.

Page shared a statement with Insider on January 14 that said the show would air again on Magnolia Network.

Page said in the statement that they strive to meet people with compassion and cautiously approach difficult moments.

The Magnolia Network is dedicated to sharing hopeful and genuine stories.

In a statement, Page said that the network would be finding appropriate resolutions for those whose experience with Home Work fell short.

While Home Work will return to Magnolia Network, we recognize the responsibility we have to act on how we can better support not only our talent, but those who put their trust in them.

On January 31, 2022, Home Work returned to the Magnolia Network.
