A dispute between Texas neighbors over a dog resulted in a fatal shooting of a man.

The Liberty County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that Eric Lee Elliott and William Duncan Womack had an ongoing dispute over Womack's dog running loose in their neighborhood about 60 miles northeast of Houston.

The dog went onto the yard when the man was working on his front yard. Authorities said that if they didn't keep the dog out of his yard, he would kill it.

The stepdaughter informed Womack of the threat. witnesses told police that when the two met,Elliott kicked Womack in the leg and shot him in the stomach, after he walked into the street to talk to him.

A 30-year cold case has been identified as the murder of an Oregon woman.

Responding officers performed life-saving measures on Womack and he was taken to a local hospital, where he died.

Elliott put the hand-gun in his truck and continued with his yard work as if nothing had ever happened.

He is currently being held at the Liberty County Jail. He is being held on a $1 million bond.
