Luke Voit's aggressive slide injures Tyler Stephenson (1:05)

Voit was trying to score from first base in the first baseman for the Padres when he hit the catcher. The time is 1:05.

The Reds are upset with Voit for his collision at home plate that left Cincinnati catcher Tyler Stephenson with a concussion.

The way his hands hit him was dirty, according to the Reds outfielder. The way Voit hit Stephenson was dirty.

I get down really well if he wants to settle it. Muay Thai, anything. I have a gym owner who will let me use his facility.

Voit tried to score from first on Jurickson Profar's double. Voit raised his arms and brought them down forcefully as he landed.

He was on the ground for a while after holding onto the ball. He did not return to the game after walking to the dugout.

Reds manager David Bell told reporters that he didn't have a problem with the slide. It is frightening for me.

The 255-pound Voit said he was trying to avoid Stephenson but admitted his elbow smoked his head a little bit.

Voit said that he was not trying to take him out. Hope he is all right, no hard feelings. It is baseball. I was not trying to make it dirty. I am just trying to make a play.

The Reds challenged the call, but the umpires ruled that Voit's slide was clean.

Bell thought it could have been an illegal slide. That does not mean that Voit did it deliberately.

Padres manager Bob Melvin said that the ball took him right into Luke, and that he was trying to protect himself. I think they did a good job.

The teammates did not agree with the managers.

Kyle Farmer said that he was not happy about the slide, and that it was not uncommon for a runner to grab someone's head and slam it to the ground. You try to reach for the bag. Maybe that was what he was trying to do. It looked like a wrestling move to Tyler's head after looking at the replay.

It is a scary play when you have a big guy like Voit coming down. I have never seen a catcher's head on a slide.

The concussion protocol will keep him out of the lineup for at least seven days. Bell acknowledged that the team was concerned about the third-year catcher, but he seemed to be doing fine.

The situation with Voit at a local gym was the subject of an offer by a former teammate of Voit.

They can say what they want. Everyone on that side knows I get down. If we need to settle something, the owner of the place will let me use his gym. That play was dirty.

The Reds and Padres will play a three-game series in San Diego on Wednesday before the two teams play a three-game series in Cincinnati next week.
