The original HomePod, which was discontinued by Apple in March of 2021, appears to have appreciated in value on online marketplace sites.

The Home Pod was originally priced at $349, but was reduced to $299 a year later. Apple discontinued the HomePod after lackluster sales, and said it would focus on the mini HomePod going forward. The Home Pod has received software updates and new features.

According to research data from eBay, the value of the Home Pod has appreciated over time. In the past year, 6,610 HomePods have been sold on eBay, with an average selling price of $348.61, which is 15 percent more than Apple's retail price. In this period of time, 2,082 new or sealed HomePods were sold with an average selling price of $432.27.

Over the past week, used or refurbished HomePods sold for an average price of $336.03 while new HomePods sold for an average price of $638.76, indicating a steady climb in value. The average appreciation of the Home Pod is around 25 percent over Apple's $299 retail price. New, factory-sealed HomePods can sell for over $500, even if they are in used condition.

There has been a decline in the number of HomePods listed for sale on eBay over time, which may contribute to the product's increase in value. Despite the device being almost five years old and containing the A8 chip from the iPhone 6, demand for Apple's large smart speaker appears to persist on online marketplaces.

A successor to the HomePod that combines a smart speaker, Apple TV, and a FaceTime camera is still being worked on by Apple.
