There was a Severance.

Apple

In the first quarter of the year, the company lost 200,000 subscribers, the opposite of the constant growth it wants to see. In the US and Canada, it lost 640,000 subscribers in the quarter, offset by gains in the Asia Pacific market. If you've used the service recently, you'll know that the answer is pretty clear.

Like a frog boiling in water, the price of the service has been constantly increasing over the years, and now it's at a point where it's a must for many families.

That is higher than any of its competitors. Such as:

  • Disney Plus - $8 a month
  • Apple TV+ - $5 a month
  • Hulu (No Ads) - $13 a month
  • HBO Max (No Ads) - $15 a month
  • Amazon Prime Video - $9 a month
  • Paramount Plus (No Ads) - $10 a month

The mid tier of the service is fifteen dollars a month, but it doesn't include 4K content, which many of these others have, and takes you down to just two simultaneous screens.

There is a market share advantage for the company. Even with the unexpected loss, they still have 221.6 million subscribers, with 75 million in the US and Canada. Rivals have reported more than that. There are 45.3 million subscribers to Hulu. Disney Plus has over 40 million subscribers in the US and Canada. There are 32.8 million subscribers to Paramount Plus. According to the last analyst estimates, Apple has only 8.1 million subscribers.

Their rivals have been allowed to gain ground due to the fact that they are too expensive. Also...

No one will argue that there isn't more content at Netflix than its competitors. They will say that is what you are paying for with the higher price. If you're looking for culturally relevant and critic/audience beloved series, you're likely to find worse offerings from Netflix. I made a comparison about the offerings from the big streamers in the year 2022.

The Gilded Age, Peacemaker, Julia, Minx, Our Flag Means Death, raised by Wolves, and Tokyo Vice are all part of the HBO Max.

Apple TV Plus includes: Severance, Slow Horses, The Afterparty, and Servant.

In From the Cold, Bridgerton, Vikings Valhalla, and Inventing Anna are some of the films on the streaming service.

It's not that you can't find good shows, but you are paying a lot more for poor quality offerings than Apple is. What are you paying for?

Some streamers are doing more with less. Disney Plus has a pretty severe lack of adult content, and yet they are dominating cultural conversation year-round with whatever Disney or Lucasfilm show is airing (Moon Knight, at the moment), where they can throw $100 million at a season of The Witcher and because of its binge releasing, no one There is another aspect to consider.

There are issues with Netflix. They are obvious. Can they fix them? That is the real question.
