Two years have passed since Meta's virtual reality hand tracking. The company has upgraded its Presence platform hand tracking support to allow more natural gestures. You can clap your hands, give a high-five and show your appreciation without reaching for your controllers.

The update provides more consistent tracking for fast movements. Deep learning is better at understanding hand poses when the cameras only have a limited view, according to Meta.

Although Meta is promising relatively little work, it will take a while before the improved hand tracking can be used in Quest apps. It is easy to see the practical improvements. You are asked to avoid certain gestures. You can use your hands in real life after this upgrade. If you see more apps and games that let you go controller-free, you will be surprised.
