For a few hours, a convenience store in Tennessee was offering the lowest fuel prices of any gas station in the country, but the owner didn't know it.

Henry DeHart knew something was wrong when he saw the pump's digital readout show a total of $5.64 after he put 12 gallons of premium gas in his car.

What is the price per gallon? Just 45 cents.

With the average cost for a gallon of gas hovering well over $4 and the price of premium gas in Tennessee at $4.64 a gallon, the deep discount would have been welcome if it wasn't so clearly a mistake, DeHart said.

He said that DeHart went inside to explain the situation to the gas station owner.

DeHart asked the owner for his receipt because of the language barrier. The owner couldn't hide his pain because the dollars and cents on the slip of paper spelled out the problem clearly.

He ran back around the counter and started poking at his screen. DeHart said that nobody had told him in the last 5 hours.

There is no telling how much money he lost today. He said that he was on the verge of tears.

According to the National Association of Convenience Stores, gas station owners make a small profit on gasoline sales. Customers are less likely to buy in-store items such as snacks and drinks, which are more profitable than gasoline, as a result of rising prices.

The man with the guts to own a small business would get screwed over by people for half of the day.

How many people thought it was my lucky day when this man was getting taken to the cleaners?

He said that not everyone was happy that DeHart had ended their day. DeHart said that a man in line behind him made that clear.

The times are tough and gas is expensive, but nothing in this world is free, according to DeHart.

He paid what he should have.

It wasn't enough to cover the owner's losses, but it seemed like the right thing to do, DeHart said.

The customer who couldn't afford gas had to come back the next day.

Thieves stole 1,000 gallons of diesel from a Texas gas station in 3 days.

Gas stations will soon be able to sell fuel with more renewable fuels. Is it possible to save you money?
