Kyrie gives Celtics fans the middle finger after tough jumper (0:23)

Irving throws up a middle finger at the Celtics fans after he knocked down a tough jumper from the corner. (0:23)

Irving was fined $50,000 by the NBA for flipping off several Boston Celtics fans during the first game of the series.

In a release Tuesday, NBA president of league operations Byron Spruell said Irving was being fined for making obscene gestures on the playing court and directing profanity toward the spectator stands.

Irving said he would have the same energy for the fans that they had for him after the Nets loss.

There is only so much you take as a competitor when people start yelling. This is what it is.

The second game of the series is Tuesday night.

Since leaving the Celtics, Irving has gotten used to being booed by Celtics fans. Irving had a water bottle thrown at him by a person in the crowd as he made his way off the floor.

He acknowledged that he heard some racist comments from the crowd at the Garden.

Information from Nick Friedell was used in the report.
