streets of rage 2

According to a report from Deadline, a movie based on the Streets of Rage game series is in the works. The production company behind the Sonic the Hedgehog films will produce the adaption of the John Wick script. Escape Artists is the studio behind The Equalizer franchise.

Streets of Rage was first released for the Genesis back in 1991, with Streets of Rage 2 and 3 launching in 1992 and 1994. In each game, you play as a group of people who fight back against the bad guys in the city. 26 years after the third game, the fourth game came out. It still manages to capture the same retro feel as the original games, and I would imagine that the modern film adaption of the series would look similar.

I'm always wary of game-to-movie adaptions, but it seems like the right fit to make a beat-em-up movie. I'm hoping that the adaption is just as action-packed and exciting as the one he did with John Wick and Nobody.

dj2 Entertainment has a deal to adapt It Takes Two for film and television, as well as the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 earlier this month. Tomb Raider, Disco Elysium, and Life Is Strange are some of the projects it is working on. He has been called to work on the live-action versions of Just Cause, Just Cause 2, and Just Cause 3, as well as the video game adaptions himself.
