Warner Bros.' long-awaited movie about the world of Minecraft is one step closer to becoming a reality, as the studio is in final negotiations with the actor who will play the title role, according to The Hollywood. The movie might be a long way from hitting theaters, as neither publication gave a projected release date. Warner Bros. didn't reply to the request for comment.

Over the past several years, the movie has hit a few blocks. Shawn Levy, the director of Night at the Museum and Free Guy, was set to direct the movie after it was first announced. In 2015, Rob McElhenney was confirmed as the director of the movie, and in 2016 the movie was given a release date. The film was delayed by Warner Bros. after the project was left by McElhenney. At one point, the movie was going to be released on March 4th, 2022, but it was pushed to make room for The Batman.

Despite the issues, a movie based on the popular video game could be a good bet for Warner Bros. Video game movies are having a bit of a moment, with Sonic the Hedgehog 2 proving to be a big hit, despite having its own share of development difficulties. We will have to wait and see if the Chris Pratt-led Mario movie will keep up the trend.
