The new products include the DaVinci Resolve 18 video editing/color correction app and the Blackmagic Cloud, a cloud collaboration system. The Cloud Store is a storage box that uses a familiar-looking enclosure.
The key product is DaVinci Resolve 18 which now includes a feature called Blackmagic Cloud designed to help content creators work together. Multiple users around the world can instantly share projects, allowing editors, colorists, VFX artists and audio engineers to collaborate in real time on the same timeline.
The proxy video files that can be transferred quickly by internet are generated by the Blackmagic Proxy Generator App. The idea is that remote editors can complete their work on proxies, then the colorist or VFX editor could automatically relink to the larger original camera files. It has new intelligent media location management that eliminates the need to manually relink or search for assets.
A new object mask that can recognize and track thousands of types of objects is one of the new creative features in Resolve 18.
You can color grade the foreground separately from the background by creating a 3D depth matt. A warp tracker that lets you create a mesh over complex objects like the logo on someone's T-shirt, then erase it or replace it with something else in a way that looks natural and realistic is one of the cool features it demonstrated.
There are a number of new features, like "ultra beauty" for corrective beauty work, new transitions, improved subtitle support and more. You can either get the free version or pay $295 for the studio version of the software.
Cloud Store is a storage box that uses the same enclosure as its eGPU for Intel Macs. The idea is that you can load it up with a lot of storage. It uses a RAID 5 configuration for fault tolerance and has enough speed to saturate the four 10G Ethernet connections.
The eGPU box has a professional look and is nearly silent so it can be placed on a desktop. Each port can be plugged into a separate computer. It can be plugged directly into the laptop'susb-C port for location work if it has ausb-C to Ethernet adapter built in. It can be used to sync footage with multiple editors and can be moved to the cloud for collaboration.
The Cloud Store is designed for professional installations, so it costs $10,000 for the 20 tb model and $30,000 for the 80 tb model. There is no pricing for the box, but it could be over $100,000. The Cloud Store Mini is priced at $3,000 and has fewer ports and no redundant storage, along with the $395 Cloud Pod, which is a setup with 10G and a single disk.
The HyperDeck Shuttle HD is a recorder that can be used on the desktop with products like the Atem Mini switcher. You can record an HDMI signal from a camera or other source, or play back media from a disk or card. You can use the jog dial to scroll through the footage. The HyperDeck Shuttle HD is now available for more than $500.
