There are thousands of species of organisms in your house. You might think your toilet is the dirtiest place, but it is actually your own body. Being a metropolis is a good thing. It's harder for dangerous species to get a foothold in your body because of the more diversity.

  • A construction technician and homeowner, Reyes Corona is in Indio, California.

  • The normal rental rate is $180 per night. It goes to $1,900 during the festival.

This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with a Vrbo owner. It was edited for clarity and length.

I bought a fully furnished, four-bedroom, two-and-a-half bath home in Indio, California for $550,000 in January. The seller said that her home was very profitable and was often listed on the vacation rental marketplace, Vrbo.

I bought the home from her and began doing the same thing.

The house was in great condition, and it even came with a detached casita with a monthly tenant

I didn't have to buy new bed linens for the master bedroom because I liked the way the former owner decorated it. It was ready to go. I have to find another place to stay when I rent because I live in the home.

The home I used to own was across from the Polo Fields where the festival takes place. I didn't even consider renting my place for the festival back then. I think I should have.

Street parking was not allowed over there. You can park anywhere you want at my place. If you wanted to, you could bring an RV.

To date, I've rented my home out five times for $180 per night. During Coachella, it's $1,900.

It was early February when I first listed the property on VRBO for the festival, with a four-night minimum and an asking price of $1,900 per night.

Four people booked it for four nights within three weeks. The two nights that fall under my regular nightly rate are the days that are close to the event. The renters told me that they are independent contractors and that they arrived earlier than attendees.

Eight young concertgoers heard about my home through a mutual friend and booked it for 4 nights. They are paying my pricing for a total of $7,600.

The keys are left for the renters, along with written instructions for local bars and restaurants. They can call me at any time.

I have been to the festival before, and it is fun. I did not get tickets this year, but it is definitely for younger people. I think I could hold my own.

My parents live here in the Valley, so I'll be living with them while I rent my place

I will be with my parents for about two weeks. I think it is fair that they charge me to stay there since I am making money renting out my own home. I think it is my responsibility as a son.

I feel like a teenager again because it has been awhile since I lived with them. I don't have the kind of privacy that I have in my own home, and I can't do things like change the thermostat or get in trouble.

I work for the Southern California Gas Utility during the day as a construction technician and engineer. That is a fancy way of saying I dig holes, fix pipes and look for leaks.

Being a host has been a great experience, and I enjoy it

Thanks to my home being close to Indio, I will not have to worry about my mortgage for the rest of the year. I plan to put any rental profits into my savings because you never know what will happen in the world during these crazy times.

I don't travel a lot, so I have never had the chance to rent a VRBO. I would now, having been on the other side.

I guess you could say that the closest I have come to renting a property is to stay at my parents house.
