Families are welcomed to the White House for the Easter Egg Roll by President Biden and his wife. Last year's event was canceled because of COVID-19, the first since Biden took office.

It wasn't the most pleasant weather for an outdoor party, with a cold rain falling on Washington, D.C., but Easter comes when it comes. The White House Easter Egg Roll, a tradition that had been put on hold by the coronaviruses epidemic, was revived this year despite the fact that winter moved over the mid-Atlantic region.

This year's event was attended by the comedian Jimmy Fallon.

The president presided over the first race and then read from a children's book he wrote.

The Bidens read the classic "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?"

Hunter Biden, the president's son who has recently become the focus of public attention due to his personal troubles and professional conduct, was also on hand. Few people present, however, appeared to be occupied with allegations of stolen laptops or secret Chinese deals.

The singer was scheduled to make an appearance at the White House. John Fetterman, the Pennsylvania lieutenant governor and U.S. Senate candidate, was captured at one point.

Easter is a holiday of renewal. Two years ago, then-president Trump thought the epidemic would be over by the time Christians around the world celebrated Easter.

Trump told Fox News at the time that he would like to have the country open and ready to go by Easter.

Around the time Biden became president, the vaccines developed by Trump's administration and the pharmaceutical industry became widely available. He stressed caution and relied on scientific expertise. The annual Egg Roll event was canceled by the White House last year, but the president and first lady appeared on the South Portico in masks. The Easter bunny wore a surgical mask on top of his costume.

Vaccination followed by booster shots have emerged as the most consistent way to prevent the spread of COVID-19, while masks have remained an ongoing issue. The president and the first lady did not wear face masks when they appeared on the South Portico. They were surrounded by Easter bunnies. The bunny was not masked.

The Eggucation Roll was billed by the White House as a reference to Dr. Biden's work as a professor of education.

The president said that they weren't able to host the Easter Egg Roll last year because of the Pandemic. It is so special. It means a lot to see and hear the children and families here.

The Egg Roll, one of the first events at a White House that is finally reopening to the public, was attended by 30,000 guests throughout the day. The White House resumed public tours last week.

The first lady welcomed the people to their house.

CNN reported over the weekend that Biden is planning his first state dinner.

A series of high-profile cases in the White House were caused by the highly transmissible Omicron subvariant BA.2 moving through parts of the Northeast. High vaccination rates in the region were a factor in the high-profile cases.

In keeping with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance, few masks were worn by participants in the Easter celebrations on Monday. The White House had to fight off questions from the press about whether enough precautions were taken. No new measures, like a new mask mandate, were necessary.

Philadelphia became the first major American city to reimpose a mask mandate, a move that has been met with criticism that seems to reflect a broad public desire to move beyond the pandemic.

The White House and Washington, D.C., have resisted following Philadelphia's lead. For months, the Biden administration has pointed out that the widespread availability of vaccines, as well as the advent of and access to therapeutic pills that can treat severe COVID-19 cases, should allow most Americans to return to normal.

There was evidence of that desire on Monday. For the first time since the beginning of the Pandemic, the Boston Marathon was held on a holiday, as has been custom for more than a century. The weather in Boston was perfect.
