After losing the title of world's busiest airport to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport in China for the first time in 22 years, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport regained the title.

The list of the 10 busiest airports in the world was revealed last week by the Airports Council International, which said the list shows signs of traffic recovery as many previous busiest airports re- join top ranks.

Chinese airports usually dominate the World's Busiest Airports list, but they lost a lot of traffic due to the Pandemic.

The data shows that in the year 2021, ATL served 75.7 million passengers. That is up more than 75% over 2020, but still down by a third.

The Mayor of Atlanta says that the numbers speak to the resilience and spirit of Atlanta.

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport welcomed more than 62.5 million passengers in 2021, an increase of almost 60% over the previous year.

TheDFW saw a 58.7% growth over the course of the year and has its sights set on returning to its previous numbers in 2022, the airport says in a statement.

Denver International Airport has an increase in passenger traffic of 74% over 2020. This is the highest ever global ranking for DEN. The airport was ranked as the 19th busiest in the world in both of the past two years.

Denver is an important hub for our airline partners because of the resilience shown by the city during the Pandemic.

Coming in at N 0. The Chicago O'Hare Airport saw a 75% increase in traffic over the course of the year.

Los Angeles International Airport takes the fifth spot. In the year 2021, traffic at the airport was up 75% over the year 2020.

Charlotte Douglas International Airport is the top ranked airport in ACI's chart. MCO showed the biggest improvement in passenger traffic. The airport served 40.4 million passengers, an increase of 86.7%, and jumped from 27th position in 2020 to 7th position in 2021.

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN), which was in the top spot in 2020, dropped to the 8th spot.

The Las Vegas airport has seen a 78.6% increase in traffic over the course of the year, but it is still down 23% compared to the year before.

According to ACI, the total global passengers will be close to 4.5 billion in 2021, representing an increase of almost 25% from 2020, or a drop of more than 50% from 2019.

ACI World Director General Luis Felipe de Oliveira says in a statement that the ACI World passenger traffic rankings tell the story of an encouraging trend of recovery, with most of the recurrent busiest airports back at the top.

Although we are cautious that recovery could face multiple challenges, we think that reopening plans by countries could lead to an increase in travel in the second half of 2022.
