Mark Allen leads Scott Donaldson after the first session of their match at the World Snooker Championship.

The players were tied at 2-2 by the mid-session interval and shared the next two frames before Allen broke through for the first time.

Allen went into the second session one frame up after Donaldson drew level.

Liam Highfield was beaten 10-7 by Anthony McGill.

The winner of the match between England and Iran will play the Scots.

The winner of Allen v Donaldson will face the world number one.

Allen took the opening frame with a break of 65, but Donaldson took the next two with breaks of 78 and 65 to give him a 2-1 lead.

Donaldson looked to have extended his lead as he compiled a 60 in the next but a 61 clearance from the Northern Irishman leveled the contest.

Breaks of 55 and 68 by Donaldson made it 3-2 to the world-ranked 49 player, but a 45 by Allen made it 4-2 and 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780 800-313-5780

Allen had two centuries in the last two frames to edge his opponent, but he still has a chance to make the second round for the first time in his career.

Allen has reached the quarter-finals three times and his best World Championship performance was a semi-final appearance in 2009.

The 36-year-old was beaten in the first round in each of the last two years.
