If the recent price hike on Amazon's Prime membership service didn't scare you away, you're in for a sales spectacular come Prime Day. Here is what you need to know about its return.
Prime Day is an annual sitewide sale that Amazon puts on for its Prime members. In honor of Amazon's 20th anniversary, it was held in 2015, and was a one-day only event filled with more deals than Black Friday, exclusively for Prime members around the globe.
Prime Day used to be a mid-July event until two years ago. It was moved up to June because of the Olympics in 2021, and then back to October in 2020 because of the Pandemic.
According to previous years, Amazon tends to pick Monday/ Tuesday or Wednesday as the days for Prime Day, but there is still no official announcement.
We will update this post as soon as the dates are revealed, and we will keep you posted on how that goes.
If you haven't been an Amazon Prime member in the past year, you can sign up for a 30-day trial.
Go to Amazon.com/prime.
Click on the button that says start your trial.
You must create an Amazon account to sign in.
You can add a payment method and a billing address. Don't worry, you won't be charged.
Click the yellow button if you want to use your free trial.
You will be upgraded to a paid membership plan after your trial period ends. The latter saves you over 40 dollars annually. For more info on discounted rates for students and EBT recipients, click here and here.
Amazon Prime's current annual rate is the result of a 17% price hike earlier this spring (from $119 to $139), which wasn't totally unexpected, but Bezos has increased it by $20 every four years since 2014). After two years of a Pandemic that made us ultra-reliant on deliveries, it is hard to swallow the higher cost.
If you are someone who does most of their shopping online, $139 is still a decent value. Prime subscribers get free two-day shipping on millions of items, as well as exclusive access to Prime Video, Prime Music, Prime Reading, and Amazon Photos. Special discounts on items to its members beyond Prime Day include early access to time-sensitive Lightning Deals. Click here for more tips on how to maximize the perks of a Prime membership.
You can shop this year's Prime Day deals without committing to a Prime membership by scheduling a 30-day free trial around the sale. We recommend that you activated it a week ahead of time so that you can take advantage of any early offers, and just remember to cancel as soon as the sale is over to avoid getting charged.
