Alex Cora said that the Boston Red Sox expect to be without several players for the upcoming series against the Toronto Blue Jays in Canada.
The starting pitcher for the four-game series will not pitch because he is not up to date on the vaccine. He would have started the second game.
To enter Canada, a person must have received a second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days prior to entry.
Houck, who has been sharp in two starts this season, will not be able to make that start.
He was asked after the win if he expected to be missing other players.
"Yeah, that's right." Cora said. He ended the press conference when he was not asked a follow-up question.
"We knew it before so we will plan accordingly," he said.
Major league service time is not accrued by players who are on the restricted list because of vaccine issues.
Austin Allen, A.J. Puk, and Kirby Snead were placed on the restricted list by the Oakland A's.
I think it is a personal choice for everyone, whether they get it or not, Houck told The Globe.
Major League Baseball isn't the only one who has issues with travelling to Canada. The Philadelphia 76ers will be without guard Matisse Thybulle when they play the Toronto Raptors in the playoffs.
