The finality of Whitaker's Doctor is something that can be ignored, and the preview for the final special plays that up, closing out on the Doctor preparing to regenerate into another actor. The return of the Daleks, Cybermen, and the Master is not the only thing happening on the special. Tegan Jovanka, a companion to the Fourth and Fifth Doctors, is returning, as is the companion to the Seventh Doctor. The reunions with the Doctor will be fun and tear jerking as they get one last chance in the sci-fi series.
Chris Chibnall told Doctor Who News that the feature length special will be directed by Jamie Magnus Stone and will be the last one for the Doctor before the 14th. He teased that this final special would contain a lot of treats and surprises for audiences and fans, as well as the return of two of the most beloved companions in the show's history.
The network will be 100 years old this October, and it is meant to be a part of a larger celebration. There will be more information about what's in store over the next several months, but the special will air sometime in the fall. The 14th Doctor is expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.
