Ukrainians appear to have launched an online campaign asking for donations of fighter jets to defend their skies from Russian invaders.
The campaign features a video of a Ukrainian fighter pilot in front of a badly damaged war plane.
He wants to buy a fighter jet so he can protect his sky from Russian planes that bomb his land, kill his friends, and destroy his homes.
The pilot says that bombs are decimating schools, homes and hospitals.
An unexpected death from above is a harsh reality for millions of people right now, he says as he clenches his fist. Give us strength to fight.
He wants businessmen, IT specialists, actors, singers, and whoever else he can find to help stop the terror.
The campaign website invites those interested in assisting to email for help in finding, buying, and transferring a fighter jet to the Air Force. Technical and legal help will be provided. There was no chance for individuals to make smaller donations.
According to the website, each plane costs $25 million and is a thousand of lives saved.
The country has received nearly $1 billion in aid from companies and organizations, as well as celebrities and private individuals. The Open Society Foundation donated $25 million. The Red Cross had donated $12 million as of this week, and the IKEA Foundation had donated $22 million.
Among celebrities who have donated are: Ryan Reynolds, who gave $1 million to the United Nations refugee agency, and Lively, who gave $1 million to the UN.
The U.S. has not provided fighter jets to Ukraine and refused to help Poland transfer Russian-made MiG-29s to the war-torn country via a U.S. and NATO base in Germany. John Kirby said at the time that Russian President Putin could see the transfer of fighter jets to the country as an act of aggression.
In an interview with CNN's Jake Tapper posted to the news outlet's website Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he doesn't believe in the world.
If you are our friends or partners, give us weapons, give us a hand, give us support, give us money to stop Russia. Not everyone has the guts.
