X-rays came back negative for Angels star Mike Trout, who was hit by a pitch in the left hand.

The three-time American League Most Valuable Player was struck by a pitch from Texas Rangers right-handed pitcher Spencer Patton in the fifth. Trout lowered his hands to protect his midsection after the 81 mph pitch.

Trout shook his hand in pain as he jumped around. He was met by trainer Mike Frostad and manager Joe Maddon after walking halfway down the first- base line. After walking him off the field, Frostad checked to see if Trout could squeeze the hand.

Trout has two home runs and two RBIs this season. He had a flair to short right field.

Trout played only 36 games last season because of a calf injury.

Trout tore a thumb on a slide into second base and had surgery. He has not played more than 140 games in a year.
