Mariupol, which has been under siege since the start of the invasion, doesn't exist anymore according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.

The situation in Mariupol is both sad and dire. The city is no longer exist. The Ukrainian army and a large group of civilians are surrounded by the Russian forces. The Russians decided to raze the city to the ground because of the way they behaved in Mariupol, Kuleba said in an interview.

Russian forces or Russian-backed rebels have taken control of the port city. France 24 reported last week that the Mayor of the city estimated that most of the infrastructure had been destroyed.

Mariupol has been wiped off the face of the earth by the Russian Federation, according to the governor of the Donetsk region.

On Sunday, the Russian Defense Ministry gave Ukrainian forces a deadline to surrender and live.

Mariupol still stands despite the fact that Ukrainians have refused to surrender. The Russian military said there were about 2,500 Ukrainian fighters at the Azovstal steel plant.

In Mariupol, Ukrainian officials estimate that over 20,000 people were killed. 100,000 people are still in the city.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Sunday that any negotiations would end if Russia continued to attack soldiers and civilians.

The outcome of these talks will be better if we are stronger. There will be no chance that negotiations will be held, he said, referring to a town destroyed by Russian forces.

Kuleba spoke with the US Secretary of State about more military aid for Ukraine.

Last week, the US announced that it would send an additional $800 million in weapons and security assistance to Ukraine.
