After arriving in SWISS in A 220 business class and then in Singapore in A380 Suites, we had a 12 hour layover at the airport. We spent the night at the new Marriott Frankfurt Airport, which really impressed me.
I had a soft spot for the hotel that I used to stay at. The hotel had over 1,000 rooms and was an airport hotel. The hotel would be split into two in 2020.
There would be a Marriott with 233 rooms and a Sheraton with 779 rooms instead of a single Sheraton with 1,000 rooms. The hotel has undergone a major renovation as part of the redevelopment.
I booked a room at the Marriott at the airport a couple of weeks in advance and it was only 140 Euro per night. The Marriott is usually a bit more expensive than the Sheraton, so I thought that was low.
The hotel charged 260 Euro for a base room, which is a good reminder to always book early, especially with a flexible rate that you can cancel.
The location of the Marriott Frankfurt Airport is the biggest selling point. The check-in hall is on the departures level. You can see an escalator between the A and Z check-in halls.
Take the escalator up a level and then take the bridge that leads to hotels.
As the Marriott and Sheraton share an entrance, you want to follow the signs toward them.
The Marriott is in one direction, while the Sheraton is in another.
I couldn't believe how nice the Marriott was, from the lobby to the guest rooms, to the food and beverage outlets. The lobby was pretty, with tons of seating that was practical. I wish more hotels had cafe-style seating in the lobby so that you can easily come down there and work on your laptop without having to order anything to eat or drink.
The check-in experience was great. The guy helped us. He thanked me for being a Bonvoy Titanium member, but he also explained that we were entitled to a suite upgrade, and he offered to look at any available upgrades. He said he had upgraded us to a suite.
I should buy a lottery ticket because I don't remember the last time I stayed at a Marriott and the check-in agent offered a suite upgrade that wasn't pre-blocked.
The hotel's club lounge was closed for the time being, and breakfast and an evening happy hour were served in other venues.
I have to apologize because I didn't take pictures of anything related to the club lounge. I needed a 12 hour food and drink cleanse before I boarded the Singapore Suites flight.
Room 6222 is a suite on the sixth floor. The elevators were right across from reception, and I remembered them from when I was a kid.
We had to turn right to get to the first room on the right.
The suite was massive. The living room had a large shaped couch, a desk with a chair, a dining table with four chairs, and a more comfortable seat in the corner by the TV.
There was a mini-fridge in the room. I didn't see any in-room coffee, but I'm not sure what's going on.
There was a half bath off the living room and by the entrance.
The bedroom was separated from the living room by double doors. There was a king size bed and a chair in the bedroom.
The main bathroom was past the closet at the back of the bedroom.
There was a sink, a bathtub, a walk-in shower, and a toilet in the bathroom.
Marriott's toiletries are pretty standard.
The Marriott doesn't have much in the way of apron or runway views, but it does have a terminal.
It was great to get an upgrade to such a large suite. The way these rooms were renovated was even more impressive to me. Is this a hotel? Absolutely not. The effort that was put into the finishes and the wall treatments made a big difference. The rooms at the Ritz-Carlton Turks and Caicos were more luxurious.
Let's talk about my real criticism of the property. We noticed that it was warm when we walked in. In Germany people like to keep it warm, and everyone likes to sleep at different temperatures.
When my relatives from Germany come to the United States, they always ask us to make it warmer at night because it's too cold.
That leads us to the Marriott Airport.
Ford and I both slept on top of the sheets because the room was too warm. I don't remember the temperature being an issue at the hotel in the past, but I think we got unlucky in the time of year where we stayed.
The air conditioning is turned on in the summer.

The lobby of the Sheraton is nicer.
Really nice.
The primary restaurant of the Marriott and Sheraton is the Eatery Kitchen and Bar, which is a significant improvement over the old setup.
The gym is one area of the hotel that hasn't been renovated. This is shared between the two hotels, and it is on the small side when you consider the number of rooms. Maybe airport hotels don't get as much gym use as other hotels.
I spent a night at the Marriott last year. I didn't review the hotel because it was still under renovation. I took some pictures of the club lounge even though it wasn't open.
The lounge space is the same as before, but it looks better. Hopefully this lounge will open again in the future.
The Marriott is an airport hotel. Being connected directly to the terminal is the main reason to stay here.
The way that the airport has developed is impressive. The rooms are nice, I was offered a proactive elite upgrade, and the food and beverage outlets are nice looking.
Our room was warm, but the lack of air conditioning was my only criticism. Hopefully that incident is an isolated one, as air conditioning should be turned on soon.
