The labor movement is now at Apple.
The Washington Post reports that workers at the Apple Store are trying to form a union. The same union workers at Starbucks stores have organized under the name Fruit Stand Workers United.
The aim of organizing is to ensure our team has the best possible standards of living in what have proven to be extraordinary times, according to a website launched by the Grand Central workers. The store employees are voting on whether to unionize.
The Grand Central store is not the only one where union activity is taking place. Employees at three other Apple Store locations are trying to unionize. Workers at the Grand Central store said that Apple was against unionization.
Over the last year, employee organization efforts have been heating up. Apple Store workers walked out on Christmas Eve to protest working conditions. Apple employees and retail workers launched the #AppleToo movement, which is collecting and publicizing stories of workplace inequality.
If Fruit Stand Workers United gets enough yes votes, they will be the first Apple Store to unionize.
