The Los Angeles Lakers wouldn't pony up the money to get Scott Brooks on Frank Vogel's coaching staff.
It is possible that Brooks will be the replacement for Vogel.
If a flashier candidate doesn't take the job, there are other names that could pop up.
In 12 seasons as an NBA coach, he has a 521-414 record. During the 2020-21 season he was the Wizards' coach, he worked with Russell Westbrook from 2008 to 2015 in Oklahoma City.
The Los Angeles Lakers were outbid by the Portland Trail blazers for the position of head coach by the time they were decided. The experienced coach didn't help much in a miserable season in Portland, but there was little to be done.
It could be a sign that the Lakers are willing to try to work out a deal with Westbrook. The first season in Los Angeles was a disaster. Russ never meshed on the floor with Anthony Davis, who dealt with injuries, while also bristling at criticism from fans.
It is almost certain that the Lakers will try to get veterans who can fit with James and Davis. There will be few and far between who will accept the $47.1 million salary of Westbrook.
