In an interview with CNN, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that he was shocked by a video of a mother identifying her son's body.

Jake Tapper played a video of a woman collapsing into tears after seeing her son's body in a well during the interview.

What is it like for you, as the president of this country, to see those videos and hear the mothers cry?

Zelensky said that it was the most horrifying thing he had seen in his life. It hurts a lot. It is a tragedy. It is not doing well. I will not be able to imagine the suffering of these people. It is a family tragedy. It is a disaster. You have just lost your dreams and life. We live for our kids. Kids are the best we have.

The State of the Union is on CNN.

Zelensky told CNN that he has to separate his government role from his personal life.

It's a great pain for me. I can not watch it as a father because you want to kill. He said that he needs to push for peace to end the suffering and that he has to watch it as the president of the state where a lot of people have died and lost their loved ones. The longer it is, the more we would lose. All these losses will be like that one.

According to the Daily Beast, a woman identified her son in a village near Kyiv. In the wake of the Russian military withdrawal from the area, atrocities were found on the outskirts of the Ukrainian capital. Journalists and other observers saw bodies on the side of the road, some with their hands tied behind their backs. Over 900 bodies have been found in the region. Some of the Kremlin's claims have been disproved by satellite and other evidence, but Russia denies responsibility.

Zelensky noted that it was difficult to get a full assessment of the casualties so far in the war, which Russia launched in February, with once-thriving Ukrainian cities like Mariupol besieged by Russians and reduced to rubble. According to the United Nations, more than 10 million Ukrainians have been displaced because of the violence.

Russia calls it a military operation and not a war. Zelensky said that it was clear that it was a genocide.

They just kill people. People were shot in the streets. People are riding bikes, taking the bus, or walking down the street. There were dead people in the streets. There were dead people in the streets. These people were not soldiers. They put their hands together. Children were forced to watch as their mothers were raped. They put them in a well or mass graves. There are children. Adults. The elderly.
