Even if the 49ers keep Jimmy Garoppolo, the Trey Lance era starts now.
Lance will be the starter in 2022, regardless of Garoppolo's status, according to Jeremy Fowler.

That is something to keep an eye on down the road. San Francisco is prepared to hold on to that $26 million salary for now. They think they can do all of their business with draft picks and free agents.
In the Bay Area, Trey Lance has been working out. I am told that he will be the guy next year. He is set to be that. It is possible that they would keep Garoppolo and that could change the dynamic. Lance is going to be the starter.
