Kevin McCarthy said on Sunday that Russia wouldn't have invaded Ukraine if the U.S. had provided weapons sooner.

This is going to get stronger and rougher and what really needs to happen is that Ukraine is not asking for American men and women to fight. McCarthy told Fox News that they were asking for weapons to defend themselves.

If we had taken those actions earlier, they probably wouldn't have invaded had we done that sooner.

He said that sending weapons to Ukraine earlier could have saved thousands of lives.

Ukraine wanted the ability to defend themselves. McCarthy said that moving the weapons to Ukraine earlier would have saved thousands of lives and probably the decision of Putin not to enter.

The claim was made in the seventh week of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Since the invasion began, the Biden administration has given Ukraine more than $3 billion in security assistance.

Anti-tank weapons, drones, small arms, and defense equipment have all received aid.

McCarthy took aim at the administration for rejecting Poland's proposal to transfer fighter jets to a U.S. air base in Germany in order to help fight Russia.

The Pentagon said that the proposal was not tenable.

The president denied Poland for providing the weapons to the Ukrainians. McCarthy said that all of that is a wrong action going forward.
