Protesters threw stones and set cars on fire during a demonstration in the Swedish city of Malmo after a far-right party in the Danes threatened to burn the Quran.

The leader of the party wrote on Facebook that they would burn the Quran and bring pork blood to pour over it.

The Hard Line was set up by a 40-year-old lawyer with Swedish citizenship who advocated banning Islam and the mass deportation of non-Western people.

Police said riot police were attacked with stones.

A protester drove a car. The driver is being investigated for attempted murder.

Kim Hild, spokeswoman for police in southern Sweden, said early on Saturday that the threshold for denying free speech was high, and that permission would not be withdrawn for the anti-Muslim demonstrations.

Protests have been held across the country since Thursday, including in the capital city of Stockholm and other towns.

At least ten police officers were injured in the violence on Friday after police equipment was stolen.
