Four people were wounded when a missile hit a humanitarian kitchen in Ukranian on Saturday.

The World Central Kitchen, a non-profit governmental organization set up by a celebrity chef, ran the community kitchen in Kharkiv. The Spanish-American chef, who owns at least a dozen restaurants in several locations around the world, created the charity more than a decade ago to provide meals to people in disaster and war zones.

The World Central Kitchen's chief executive, Nathan Mook, confirmed the explosion on his account.

This is the reality here, cooking is a heroic act of bravery, and Mook was at the kitchen meeting the team only 24 hours prior to the missile strike.

Staff workers were terrified but safe after the attack, Andr said.

Giving food in the middle of a war is an act of courage, resilience, and resistance.

The World Central Kitchen has served more than one million meals to people who have fled violence. The organization serves hot meals to refugees at all eight border crossings.

The World Central Kitchen was founded after the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. After Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, it served more than 3.4 million meals and fed more than 11,000 workers in one day.
